KU CHC/SEK Rural Family Medicine Residency is excited to offer Fourth Year Externship Rotations to interested and qualified students. This four-week rotation will give student direct insight into the residency program, time with our residents and faculty, as well as a well-rounded rural family medicine experience at both CHC/SEK and Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. Please review the basic requirements before beginning the application process.
Application Requirements:
In order to rotate at CHC/SEK, you must meet the following requirements at the time of application. All documentation must be included.
1.      Currently in good standing at an LCME-accredited medical school or AOA-accredited school of osteopathic medicine
2.      Approved by your home institution to participate in an away elective at Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas.
3.      Have passed USMLE/COMLEX Step 1
4.      Covered by at least $3,000,000 aggregate/$1,000,000 instance worth of malpractice insurance. Students may purchase additional insurance, as needed,
after acceptance.
5.      Completion of HIPAA training at your home school and completion CHC/SEK Compliance Form
6.      Have been instructed in safety measures and infection control precautions
7.      Submitted AAMC Standardized Immunization form with TB test done within the past 3 months.
8.      Passage of both a criminal background and a drug screening
9.      Have completed the following core clerkship requirements before the rotations begin: Family Medicine or Internal Medicine and Obstetrics rotations

You are welcome to contact us with any questions you might have. Email is the preferred form of communication. Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received and must be scheduled/approved at least 30 days prior to the rotation start date.
If you are accepted or rejected for a rotation at CHC/SEK, the Education Department will contact you by email. If accepted, you will be provided with further details about your rotation. You may not make direct arrangements with any other departments or preceptors regarding a visiting rotation at CHCSEK prior to applying or being offered a rotation.  All contacts and questions should be made through the CHC/SEK Education Department.
